Movies To Video Games Reviews
Review #38

Toy Story for the Super Nintendo (SNES), Sega Genesis, Game Boy and PC (In High Definition), is fully reviewed and analyzed as compared to the actual movie itself.

Majority of this review was done playing the SNES version with some Genesis based moments mixed in. But this review will count as a review for the game on all four systems.

Feel free to comment. More movies to video games reviews coming soon.. suggestions and feedback welcome and encouraged.

Just a reminder, keep attacks and flames off of here. I will remove either without warning. Please see my FAQ video for more on my policies about such things. I try to run a clean place. Take it to private if you have a problem with me or others. Thanks again!!

Final score and break down of score can be found below:

They are on a 0-10 scale with 10 being the best score possible:

Story Accuracy to the Movie 7.5
(Pretty accurate for an older console based game on the various systems around at the time. Goes from point to point from the film and the cutscenes as well really tie it all in together. Of course there are some deviations and additions and a lot of points that stretch moments for all their worth as is the norm, but as far as movie based games go, it was pretty accurate for the most part.)

Music Soundtrack Accuracy to the Movie’s 7.5
(A lot of the songs from the movie are found within the game. “Strange Things are Happening”, “You’ve Got a Friend in me” to name a few. Some of the music is original to the games themselves but even those are really great and upbeat sounding. There isn’t a bad song found here and even better that they have songs from the film sounding so great. Too bad the SNES version though doesn’t have You’ve Got a Friend in Me though for some reason.)

Game Difficulty 5.0
(The real thing that will hold this game back is the difficulty. On any version of the game there will be very frustrating and just annoying moments that will make the game a bit unenjoyable at points. Difficult jumps, repetitive moments using hooks to grab onto, fast paced moments that require accuracy and luck. As well as rough controls especially during the RC driving stages. But it has its moments where it is overly easy as well at least)

Overall Fun 6.5
(When you aren’t dealing with the difficulty or annoying moments the game is a lot of fun. Reliving this great film is a blast at many points. Driving as RC, exploring the insides of the crane machine and venturing about in Andy’s room from the film. It’s all here and lots of variety and options to mix things up time and time again.)

Final Score: 6.75
Very Good

  1. The PC version has the best music and animation graphics, and is a lot easier than Genesis and Super Nintendo; Sega Genesis is the BEST, because it has ALL the levels, a bonus game, and a character review at the game's end; the Super Nintendo is pretty good in its own way, including the the brightest and prettiest colors of all versions; but Game Boy version is my LEAST favorite.

  2. You forgot Slinky being voiced by Jim 'Ernest' Varney!

  3. I got this on the SNES for my fourth birthday. Game is the shit!

  4. @TCgamerboy2002
This moment brought to you by dyslexia :/

  5. Well, the GB version wasn't so good though.

  6. @hackensac Yes Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 video games will be reviewed eventually.

  7. @fecman94 Didn't forget. Just got cut out in the final version was all. Didn't want to go on about it as I tried to focus on the game play itself rather than a quick addition added into the Genesis version when the extra racing stage was a more important addition in my opinion to focus on.

But yes it should be noted that there was a bonus stage that would appear in the Genesis version when you got a certain amount of stars acquired that you can play which wasn't in the SNES version.

  8. I remember renting this back in the day and played the shit out of it

  9. genesis version kicked ass

i liked the computer version too
    (the mario-party type one)

  10. Really, 6.75 out of 10, I would at least give it an 7 or 8 out of 10. Mostly, because of the Game Boy version being hard to read text, and strange levels. Other than that, great movie/game review. Keep it up.

  11. The original film was legendary the second was good. I haven't seen the 3rd at all.

  12. I remember asking my mom to buy this for me when it first came out when I was just a little kid. I got the Genesis version and it actually took me years to beat it. But then again, I wasn't as good at video games back then.

  13. Am I the only one that thinks that the Genesis version is the best one?

  14. Actually, the SNES version was the earliest version, made in late 1995.

  15. @PuksisKissa Second best as the PC version has a cheat code for level select. IF you dont count cheat codes as being part of the game then the genesis version is the best due to its controller.

  16. @NonstopRam
I don't want to be a nuisacne, but Genesis version has it too 🙂

  17. personally my favorite was Toy Story 2 on PC I loved that game when I was 5

  18. I remember when I got this game as a kid when it was new, I thought the graphics were just totally amazing. I see they still do hold up, very good for it's time, I think. One of the nicest looking Genesis games 😀

  19. What he does in his reviews is that he starts out with a brief summary and background of the movie that the game is based on and then he reviews the game itself and tells how well the game follows the movie.

To answer your question, it is basically reviews of the games.

  20. Could you please review Batman Returns, Jurassic Park and The Jungle Book for the SEGA Genesis? Thanks in advance, I love your channel.

  21. I have Toy Story 2 for PS1 and can totally realate to your review. I want to play this one sometime too. You really should make a review for Toy Story 3!

  22. what was weird is you could easily skip as many levels as you want.

  23. On the Super Nintendo, in level 1 go to the dresser with the Arm Troops, duck down on the lower drawer & wait for the star to spin.

On the Sega Genesis, in level 2 collect 7 stars & then duck down in the toy chest until the star starts spinning.

On a side note, I grew up on the Super Nintendo version but last year, I bought a Sega Genesis with part of my tax refund & this game was 1 of the 1st 5 games I bought with it.

Truthfully I think Genesis is better because of the extra features.

  24. Movies2GamesReviews,can u do disneys bolt plz.

  25. I have had the Sega Genesis Version for about 12 years and I still can barely get past the Buzz Nightmare battle. The game does have good play control though.

  26. They just don't make movie based games like they used to. This is easily one of the greatest games of the Genesis' life cycle.

  27. Great vids! started making some mobile games myselve, what do you think?

  28. I think the game has some really great visuals for the snes, it's also not a bad game too.

  29. the snes one didn't have you've got a friend in me

  30. Hey Movies to Video games can you as well do Shows to Video games because you will have way more videos.

  31. Can we get 500 subs With bad content ? says:

Ya know it actually be awesome if when the toys against sid. As sid slips on a banana peel the toys get a string and tie him like gulliver
