Episode 24: SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (XBOX)

SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos is a 2003 competitive fighting game produced by Playmore (formerly SNK) for the Neo Geo arcade and home platform. The game was ported to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in Japan and the PAL region, although only the Xbox version was released in North America.

The game is a crossover featuring characters from SNK’s and Capcom’s respective fighting game properties such as The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter, and Darkstalkers. It was the third arcade game in a series of crossovers between these two companies and the only one developed by SNK (SNK previously produced SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium for the Neo Geo Pocket Color).

  1. Good review! The only thing I don't agree with is the comment about the depth of the fighting engine.2D fighters have a different focus then mashing buttons. It takes a hell of a lot of time to master a 2D fighter than a 3D(IMO).

  2. Im tight that this game never made its way to the PS2 while the Capcom vs SNK games were on the Xbox, PS2 and I believe GameCube too?? Any reason why it was only on Xbox at the time?

  3. @***** I believe violent Ken was inspired by the Streetfighter 2 anime movie that came out in the 90's. Bison brainwashed Ken using a PsychoPower machine and Ken and Ryu were going at it. When MUGEN was very popular people would simulate fights between Violent "Psycho" Ken vs. Evil Ryu. Man, those fights were Awesome!! LOL

  4. Great review. I can't stress how much I absolutely LOVE this fighter. People need to remember (or know) that it's running on the Neo Geo hardware/engine so it's going to play more like an SNK fighter and not a Street Fighter game. Speaking of which I think the Capcom characters look FANTASTIC on the Neo Geo hardware. Their moves and stand animations (certain characters have new ones) look great. Balrog's standing animation in particular looks kick ass, and Demetri alone is a testament on what you can pull off with aging hardware (he looks RIDICULOUSLY good and his block animation is SO AWESOME.) Still rock the hell out of this game till this day.

  5. Dude, I'm gonna be honest. Your reviews are awesome! You should get more viewers than you already have! You my friend, have earned yourself a new subscriber.

  6. Bro tell me why i feel like the biggest dumb ass for not knowing i could of just press the r trigger to see other characters i try finishing the game countless times

  7. This is my favorite of the SNK vs Capcom games.

  8. Just imagine how much more awesome this game could have been had it not been rushed when Playmore took over and didn't have the budget to finish it properly. You can just tell from the art assets how ambitious SNK was and how serious they were about the project. I honestly believe if we would be looking at an all time great fighting game, at least on the level of Cap vs snk2 in terms of completeness, had they been allowed to finish.

  9. I dunno about the look, I feel compared to Capcom's SNK crossover games and SNK's own Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which came out 4 years before SvC, visually it doesn't that great and I really don't get why they didn't go with the Garou art direction. Though Violent Ken does interest me (minus the puffy afro hair in his artwork). I wish Capcom brought him back for SFV and made him the main Ken for the game because if the Illuminati have Charlie then Shadowloo should get Ken to level the playing field like in the legendary Street Fighter II anime.

  10. Man they really need to make a Capcom vs. SNK 3 (Capcom) or a SNK vs. Capcom 3 (SNK). They both had made only two games and that's it. Capcom only made CvS 1 & 2 and SNK only made SvC Match of the Millennium and Chaos. There needs to be a third one for both.

  11. I loved the SNK little feature of the back flip..or like if they fall on their head when a enemies do a special on you.. that's the SNK style lol

  12. This game hasn't always been super well received, but it means a lot to me. This was the game that revitalized my love the 2D fighter genre. It showed up in my local arcade, and I would play it almost every weekend. It also furthered my interest in the KOF series. This game did a lot for me, and for that I appreciate it. That being said, I'm not a fan of the console version. I prefer the arcade version, with all the pixels, and the Engrish announcer.

  13. Excuse me, did this guy just say that 2d fighters don’t have much depth to it! Beside that very large oversight great video

  14. “We all know these 2d fighters don’t have much depth to them.” *facepalm

  15. Yeah great review, I'd be even better with a shortes intro

  16. Please upload SVC chaos Athena ending (Xbox) video?

  17. I bought this game on Xbox on accident I’m skeptical about buying an Xbox because I remember my friends Xbox burning out and stopped working
